ARTIST STATEMENT
My interest in art started at a young age with drawing and painting, which evolved to sewing, leather work and 3D construction. Today, my focus is on graphic design, marketing, digital art and photography, with interest in interior design. Growing up in the Smoky Mountains, my time was spent exploring the colors, textures and views of the landscape. I appreciate the details of the big picture and derive inspiration from the beauty in our connection to simple things. I analyze how objects and people relate to one another and their environment through composition, vantage point and perspective. I am interested in how light and orientation affect images. The specific use of these elements change the ideas that are presented and the emotions evoked. I strive to organize space and imply concepts to the viewer while leaving room for interpretation. I am drawn to the versatility of the camera, using it to create or capture moments both representational and abstract. I enjoy shooting black and white film and the analog process, as well as digital photography. My passion for photography is reflected in my work as a visual designer. My goal as an artist is to communicate a personal element through the universal language, which I believe is visual.
